Stena opens building for refugees.

Mid September we received a request from the municipality of Kiel (Germany) with regard to the possibility of temporary use of our building “Markthalle”.
The stream of refugees arriving in Kiel was demanding a human treatment and shelter, where they can eat, sleep and take care of themselves. The majority of the refugees are waiting for a possibility to travel on to Sweden, by the Stena Line ferry Kiel – Gothenburg.

Within 2 days the necessary documents and permissions were organised. Less than 4 hours after signing the contract the first refugees were welcomed in the building. In total we can can give shelter to 300 persons per night.

The Mayor of the City of Kiel, Herrn Ulf Kämpfer, expressed his appreciation for the quick response at his emergency call. The property is now leased free of charge for 3 months by municipality of Kiel. We were glad that we were able to help out in this very difficult and emotional situation.
